User Experience Consultant

You may know me by Stephanie Lummis… things change.

I have been the User Experience Lead on over 100 digital projects, providing strategic consulting in:

  • user experience
  • usability
  • information architecture
  • accessibility
  • content strategy and web writing
  • web governance

I’ll work closely with you to understand your business and craft customer-centric experiences that focus on measurable results. I’ve helped clients in all industries, from government and economic development, to consumer goods, tourism and post secondary education.

A brief history of my journey in web

I started my career in Vancouver in 1995. In my first web job at an Internet Service Provider, I sat in a shopping mall and gave people demonstrations of this crazy new thing called the World Wide Web. And I sold dial-up accounts to people with 14,400 modems.

Following that I was the EMarketing Manager for a corporate email service provider. In our ads we called it “electronic mail”.

Why do I love search engine optimization so much? My next career move was as a Product Manager for a visual search engine. Here I had the opportunity to meet Tim Berners-Lee (you know, the inventor of the web).

I left Vancouver in 2005 and returned home to Halifax. I spent 12 years as a User Experience Lead at a digital agency. I left in 2017 to be an independent UX consultant and trainer – which brings us to today.

Techsploration is an organization near and dear to my heart. I have volunteered as a role model and with their marketing communications committee since 2008.

Speaking about all things web since 1996

In the late ‘90s I lectured on website findability at the University of British Columbia as part of the first Internet Marketing degree program in North America.

I have created customized training, from facilitating small working groups to classroom style hands-on workshops for 80 people. And I’ve presented at national conferences, and everything in between.

I’m told my style is engaging, often humorous, and filled with practical information you can put to use right away.

Tweet from @cr8tiveCandy: Highly recommend this for anyone responsible for website management or oversight!!
